About JNF UK

Our Future

HOW WE ARE HELPING TO RESHAPE 21st CENTURY ISRAEL

Times change and you may not know that JNF UK has changed with them.

We continue to support Israel’s basic land, water and other environmental needs. But the projects we support now harness the latest technologies and are helping to build what is arguably the world’s most innovative agro-economy. For example, we are currently planting trees in an organic kibbutz called Neot Smadar in the Negev Desert, in the south of Israel. This kibbutz is able to farm and flourish despite extremely limited annual rainfall by pumping water through the desert, and by recycling water and sewage via sophisticated purification systems. The sustainable natural habitat that we are helping to build allows the kibbutz to run a thriving fish farm. It is projects like this that put JNF at the cutting edge of developing a carbon neutral environment.

In an even more significant evolutionary move, we at JNF are now, in addition to our traditional land-based projects, also helping with the bigger human picture in Israel.

Israel in the 21st Century faces critical humanitarian challenges. Demographic trends require an urgent rethink of how the land is managed, how the water is directed and above all, how communities are built and sustained. We have begun working closely with the Israeli state to develop long-term solutions to the severe population squeeze now affecting many towns and cities in Israel, especially in the North.
