About JNF UK

JNF Manchester

The JNF Manchester office is a buzzing and exciting place to be. We are always delighted to take your call, whether you want to attend a charity event, buy a tree or flower certificate, empty or collect a JNF Blue Box or purchase one of our JNF diaries or calendars – please just call or pop in to see us.

Located in North Manchester, the office is run by Lorraine Palastrand, Senior Campaign Executive along with Gemma Brown the Youth Events Co–ordinator, Danielle Rose the office administrator extraordinaire and Georgina Caller, our new assistant administrator.

Every year JNF Manchester hosts a number of first class charity events. In the past we’ve hosted the Colin Powell Dinner and JNF Stars in Your Eyes. This December we will be hosting JNF Factor, which will be our version of the X-Factor with a fabulous prize for the winner. For more details about these events click here to view our photogallery.

JNF Manchester has excelled in reaching out to the 21-35 age group. The two well established committees, Butterfly & eXposure, always put on a wide variety of sell-out fun events, raising large amounts for JNF. The New Years Eve trip to Eilat, run by JNF Future and Butterfly, is now an annual trip, taking nearly 200 JNF enthusiasts every year.

We have run a large Lottery syndicate for the last 8 years, and if you would like to join please call the office. We’ll be pleased to give you all the information. This is your opportunity to give a donation to Israel as well as a chance to win the ‘BIG’ one (email us for info).

Our aim is to put on events that the community would like to attend, and one of the ways we do this is by purchasing block bookings for the best seats at concerts in Manchester and pass these on to the community for a small premium. In the past we have taken block bookings for Neil Diamond, Cher, Britney Spears and Elton John. Tell us who you’d like to see, and we will try and get tickets for their next Manchester concert.

The office is open 9am-5pm each day (early finish on Fridays)

The Executive comprises: Karen Abramson (Chairman), David Berkley QC, John Blaskey, Marsha Franks, Nigel Gordon, Stephanie Isaacs, Jerome Landau, Geraldine Lawton, Margot Reuben and Tommy Schweiger.

Today under the watchful eye of Karen Abramson, Manchester JNF is at the top of the fundraising tree in the UK. This reflects their early beginnings. The leaders in Manchester were the leaders of industry for the area and men such as Don Kostoris and Dr Berwitz were held in very high regard within the community.

From the foundation of the State of Israel and all its subsequent wars, Manchester continued to raise significant funds and encouraged a very active Young JNF Group. Through the 1960’s and 1970’s the work continued to gather momentum with community support from leading lights such as Robert Werner, Mendel Beale and Sir Sydney Hamburger pushing to raise the maximum money for Israel to help keep the country alive. Much of the success of the Blue Boxes during this period was down to the Manchester Commission who redesigned the Boxes in 1969.

As the 80’s began Mendel Beale passed the baton on to Gerry Morris and Sam Herwald. This period was marked by many successful events and a host of celebrities made their way to Manchester to help raise funds for various projects.
In the 90’s the Commission was led first by John Blaskey and then Karen Abramson, our current leader.

Today JNF Manchester continues to be an innovator and leader for JNF UK. Manchester was the first to organise Green Sunday – an event that has raised well over £2 million for JNF nationwide. Manchester trained the whole country in this endeavour.

The office, run by Lorraine Palastrand and her dedicated team, is a model for the rest of the country. Their dedication and support has kept the JNF in Manchester at the very forefront of charity work within the Community. The Greibach family in the play area dedicated in their name, May 1987.
