Halutziot

Visit the desert sands of the Negev and you can see the future of
Israel emerging. JNF is supporting a remarkable community of pioneers
at Halutziot in the Northern Negev. They have seen their communities
dismantled twice in the name of peace, first at Yamit in Sinai, and
then at Atzmona, Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip. Now they are building
again from nothing, for a third time. In plastic greenhouses they are
growing top quality sweet peppers that you can find on the shelves
of stores such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Waitrose. They are reclaiming the desert
sands metre by metre, miraculously growing carrots and new potatoes.
It is an impressive achievement. The people of Halutziot are dedicating
their lives to making the reclaiming of the Negev a reality.
We at JNF UK have agreed to raise funds to help build two new schools in Halutziot. At the moment, the children are educated in pre-fabricated huts, which
are hot, cramped, and lacking in even basic educational equipment. The
new schools will make Halutziot far more attractive to families
- indeed it is likely the community could rapidly double in size.
