UK Horticulturalists to work at Jerusalem Botanical Gardens

JNF UK PARTNER FRIENDS OF THE JERUSALEM BOTANICAL GARDENS SEND GARDENERS TO WORK IN ISRAEL

JNF UK partners the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens to help raise funds for and awareness about the important horticultural work carried out at the Gardens. The latest scholarship recipients to go out to work at the Gardens from the UK are Ruilan Huang, who is from the People’s Republic of China, and Filipe de Souza whose family roots are in Portugal and Tenerife, where they are plant growers.

They are on a six month JBG Scholarship having completed their masters in Plant Biodiversity at the University of Reading and are enjoying their new experiences immensely.

So far the Friends of JBG have sent more than 90 students on scholarships to the Gardens but Ruilan and Filipe are the first from China or Portugal.

In this picture they are working in the nursery – due to the shmitta year which the Gardens are observing – plants can only be raised this year in containers.

More information on the JBG can be found under ‘Projects’, ‘Botanical Gardens’
