Beit Issie Shapiro

Beit Issie Shapiro is a community-based organisation, situated in Raanana, Israel. It provides comprehensive services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and other special needs.

Established in 1981 the organisation currently helps some 10,000 people each year. The children have a range of disabilities including developmental delay, mental retardation, mild learning disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome and many other metabolic disorders.

JNF UK has significantly funded the building of a world class and highly innovative adventure playground – Park Chaverim – in the nationally acclaimed Raanana Park. The park was opened in October 2005 and enables able-bodied children to share the same play experience as their disabled friends. This playground is unique in Israel and features some of the latest “teaching through play” equipment to maximise the therapeutic value of the time spent in the playground area.
