Volunteers help when disaster strikes

Last year, JNF UK embarked on a brand-new project – training hundreds of young volunteers to be ready for when the next disaster struck Israel. The past ten days have, tragically, given them the perfect opportunity to put their new skills into practice. The whole country was shut down as thousands of rockets were fired indiscriminately at civilian targets, forcing families to take cover for days on end.

We are so proud of our volunteers, who stepped up as soon as the first sirens were heard. They have been travelling across Israel, giving a vital helping hand wherever it was required. From looking after the children of emergency workers to clearing out disused shelters (see below), they have made a huge difference to communities living in incredibly difficult conditions. Kol HaKavod!

The ceasefire means that they can hopefully return to their normal lives – ready to spring into action when next needed.
