Construction of Sports Grounds in Shavei Darom

In 2005 during Israel’s disengagement from Gaza, many families were evicted from the Darom Village in Gush Katif – a bloc of 17 Israeli settlements in the southern Gaza strip.  Some of these families set up home in the western Negev in a community called Shavei Darom. This growing neighbourhood presently houses around 50 families.

In 2016, JNF UK recognised that the infrastructure was no longer adequate for the community’s growing as they lacked a place to enjoy leisure time – something particularly important in an area suffering over a decade of rocket attacks.

In order to improve the quality of life for its residents, a new sports ground including two football pitches and basketball courts was built.

As well as enhancing quality of life for current residents, the facility aims to attract new families to the area.
