Yad Tamar

In 2009, the Yad Tamar organisation was established with a vision to create deep social and community change. The organisation provides tools and solutions for crisis management and support for cancer patients and their families by strengthening their immediate environment.

Yad Tamar’s “HUG Model” (Helping. Understanding. Giving) pinpoints key areas of support for patients and their families. This holistic model empowers the family’s close circle to become the front line of support in a compassionate, effective, and non-intrusive manner. The model includes support in four main areas: rights realization, family organisation, emotional support, and access to essential information.

However, the entire model would not be effective without the necessary resources and training. Yad Tamar trains both individuals and communities across the country to serve as ambassadors, providing systemic assistance to patients and their families. This training creates a volunteer network that allows Yad Tamar to reach more people in a timely and efficient manner.

Yad Tamar extended special emergency support initiatives, in the response to the Iron Swords War that happened on October 7th. During the war, many families faced new challenges, including loss of loved ones, injuries, financial hardships, and displacement.
Yad Tamar established a community-based, case managers support system to provide holistic assistance to affected families. The system integrates human and technological resources to maintain family and community resilience.

Looking ahead, Yad Tamar envisions thousands of resilient communities across Israel, fostering tens of thousands of case managers and hundreds of thousands of people engaged in effective, long-term support networks.
