Young Adult Centre, Kiryat Malachi

JNF UK funded the construction of a new state-of-the-art Young Adult Centre in the development city of Kiryat Malachi. The Centre aims to promote social mobility by providing essential services and guidance to the many young adults living in the city.

Kiryat Malachi is a city in the southern district of Israel. During the 1990s, a large number of new immigrants from the former Soviet Union and from Ethiopia moved there. This increased the population by 40% to approximately 22,000 today. The city suffers from social inequality in a number of areas. Many of the residents come from low socio-economic backgrounds, making Kiryat Malachi a city with a high rate of citizens living on state benefits.

JNF UK is funding a number of projects which aim to renovate and rejuvenate the city, including the construction of the new Young Adult Centre.

The Centre will allow the municipality to provide a service that will create a better future for the many young adults who live in Kiryat Malachi, which currently, at 7000, is approximately 30% of the city’s population.

The main goals of this Centre are to encourage higher education, provide employment guidance, give soldiers a range of tools to succeed in their future civilian life and develop local leadership and community involvement opportunities in various fields.

The Centre, which is named after Sheila Ottensooser who left a generous legacy to support the vital work of JNF UK, opened its doors in April 2018.
